A dump truck tumbled about 400 feet down a hill in Portola Valley Thursday after colliding into two cars. The driver of the truck sustained only minor injuries. |
A 10-wheel dump truck crashed into two parked cars before tumbling 300 to 400 feet down a hill in Portola Valley yesterday.
The dump truck hit two parked cars in the driveway at 281 Ramona Road at approximately 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The truck lost control and pushed two parked cars down the hill. The truck then flipped over those two cars and fell further down the hill, said Battalion Chief Emil Picchi of the Woodside Fire Protection District.
It took crews the better part of the day to pull the truck up the hill and cleanup crews will return to the site today to remove any dirt contaminated by a leaking fuel leak that required a hazardous materials response.
It required two very large tow trucks to pull the dump truck up the hill, Picchi said
Firefighters were on scene for more than six and a half hours.
The driver managed to climb from the truck. He was transported to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries, Picchi said.
One 50-gallon fuel tank was punctured during the accident, but it posed no immediate danger, Picchi said.
