Redwood City fire improves rating
February 09, 2013, 05:00 AM

The Redwood City Fire Department improved its fire protection service rating by an insurance industry advisory company, the city announced Friday.

The department moved from a Class 3 to a Class 2 which places the agency in the top 1 percent safest of all United States municipal rated fire departments, according to the city’s announcement.

The evaluation by the Insurance Services Office Inc. shows the commitment made by the City Council, the city’s management, water division and county public safety communications, said  Fire Chief James Skinner.

"We are extremely proud and dedicated to be providing the best services to our community,” Skinner said.

The classification helps communities evaluate their safety and also secure lower fire insurance premiums.
