Class notes
February 05, 2013, 05:00 AM

Once again, student actors will turn the tables and become directors during Notre Dame de Namur University Department of Theatre and Dance's annual Student Showcase Feb. 7 – Feb. 9 at the NDNU Theatre.

The Student Showcase provides the capstone experience for senior theater majors. Each student assumes overall responsibility for selecting and casting a play, and coordinating the design and technical support provided to the production by the theatre and dance faculty and staff.

This year's Student Showcase features Lanford Wilson's "The Great Nebula in Orion,” directed by Danielle Vivion, and Peter Shaffer's "The Private Ear,” directed by Margaret Gorrell. "The Great Nebula in Orion” presents a chance meeting between two childhood friends. While each is outwardly successful, they both struggle with an internal emptiness. In "The Private Ear,” a boy invites a girl for dinner, but the boy is awkward and his attempts at romance hopeless.

The Student Showcase will also include a special presentation of a stage reading of "Missed Matches,” written by NDNU faculty member Mark Wright.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7 - Feb. 9 in the NDNU Theatre, 1500 Ralston Ave., Belmont. General admission is $10. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door. For more information call 508-3456.
