Santa Clara supes to consider credit card rules
December 18, 2012, 05:00 AM The Associated Press
SAN JOSE — Santa Clara County officials are set to consider new rules for county-issued credit cards in the wake of allegations that a supervisor used his for personal expenses.

The San Jose Mercury News reports (http://bit.ly/U7CvmS) that the proposals are scheduled to go before county supervisors on Tuesday. Among other changes, they would strip supervisors of their credit cards if they failed to file itemized receipts and require credit card expense reports to be submitted to an open session board of supervisors meeting.

Audits have accused Supervisor George Shirakawa of billing taxpayers for golf fees, casino stays and upgraded rental cars and allowing his staff to charge thousands of dollars in donations to a county-issued credit card.

Shirakawa has agreed to reimburse some of the disputed funds, but is challenging others.

He has said he is the victim of a personal attack.

Daily Journal Quick Poll

The city of San Mateo is moving toward hiring a private company to remove graffiti in the city faster. Do you think it's a good idea?

If it means it will be removed faster, I'm all for it
No, the city should have its own workers remove it
Some of the graffiti is artistic, they should leave it alone
